How It Works

Magastic® contains the active ingredient mastic gum, a natural resin that is harvested from the Pistacia lentiscus tree, found only on the Greek island of Chios. Known for its protective effect on the stomach it has been traditionally used for centuries.

Mastic gum acts in many ways to aid gastric support. It contains antioxidants and has been shown to have antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties.

Indigestion, also know as dyspepsia, is a term to describe discomfort in your chest or stomach, associated with problems anyone could encountered when digesting food.

Dyspepsia (indigestion) can be divided into two types: organic and functional dyspepsia. Organic dyspepsia comprises of stomach ulcers, acid reflux (heartburn), gastric or oesophageal cancer, disorders of the pancreas, intolerance to food or drugs, and other infections.

In Functional dyspepsia the cause is often unclear. It could be due to a delay in evacuation of food from the stomach to the duodenum (first part of the small intestine) or impaired accommodation of the stomach to a meal. There may be altered sensations in the stomach. Some other possible factors in functional dyspepsia include infection from the bacterium H. Pylori, inflammation. Its likely symptoms are triggered by what and how you eat although can also be caused by factors such as stress, anxiety and depression. In some scenarios such as pregnancy , indigestion can be unavoidable.

There are a range of treatments both natural and synthetic that can treat symptoms but will not cure indigestion. Magastic is a natural everyday remedy to help you digest your food. Magastic EXTRA is a higher strength formula for natural indigestion support, used to treat the symptoms of an upset stomach.

Additional clinical studies have been completed on mastic gum:

Is Chios mastic gum effective in the treatment of functional dyspepsia?

Reported Chios mastic gum significantly improved the perception of symptoms in patients with functional dyspepsia over 3 weeks of treatment.
*A prospective randomised
double-blind placebo controlled trial.

The effect of mastic gum on Helicobacter pylori:

This study suggested that mastic gum could be used as an alternative regime in patients unwilling to undergo eradication with the triple therapy regime (2 antibiotics and 1 proton pump inhibitor).
*a randomized pilot study.

Mastic Gum and their Antibacterial Activity Against Drug-Resistant Helicobacter pylori.

The studies discovered that components assayed from mastic gum showed anti-H. pylori activity against four different H. pylori strains commonly found in patients. These components could be useful to overcome the drug-resistance H. pylori growth in stomach.

Chios Gum Mastic:
A Review of its Biological Activities.

The report evaluated the historical uses and biological activities of mastic oil. These include anti-H.Pylori activity, anti-fungal, lipid-lowering, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.

Mastic contains antioxidants and also has antibacterial and antifungal properties.[4] A Nottingham University study published in the New England Journal of Medicine claims that mastic can cure peptic ulcers by killing Helicobacter pylori bacteria.[5] The aim of the study was to assess the potential anti-ischemic and antiatheromatic activity of Chios Mastic gum. The study found that cholesterol levels in subjects tested using the neutral mastic fraction had their cholesterol levels reduced by 88%
